Sly Fox Beer label

Problem

Sly Fox Brewing Company is coming out with a seasonal oatmeal stout titled “Softly Falling Darkness”. Todd Palmer, creative director of the identity agency VFC, hired me to design a unique label design.

Solution

The name “Softly Falling Darkness” inspired me into visually researching the unique hunting method of Foxes. Their technique involves  jumping high in the air to surprise their prey. There are many illustrations of foxes in their iconic air stance and I found one that inspired the entire the design. Oatmeal stouts are seasonal to winter and Sly Fox noted they wanted the illustration to be at night. I illustrated a silhouetted scene of a fox “softly falling” or hunting covering the front. The back illustrates a landscape view of the front with a farm and fence and the same silhouetted fox hunting in a different angle. The color palette reflects a wintery night and the neon yellow was chosen to direct the viewers’ eyes to follow the entire design.

Impact

Sly Fox’s Softly Falling Darkness oatmeal stout will hit their brewery this upcoming winter. More details on the impact are still to come.
